in her debut vehicle "Student Of The Year", but in real life Mahesh Bhatt and Soni Razdan's daughter does not hanker after brands. "As far as brands are concerned, I don't own a branded thing. I believe that I would only buy a branded item with my own money," she told IANS in a group interview.
"Shanaya loves her clothes, bags, shoes and she is very brand conscious. She also comes from a dysfunctional family and feels lonely and is looking for that one person who can love her unconditionally," Alia said.

Anchor: Tell us about your role in Bollywood movie The Student of the year.
Alia: My characters name is Shanaya Singhania. She comes from a very affluent family. She is obsessed with dressing up. She loves clothes, bag and shoes and is all branded. She comes from a dysfunctional family as well. So she does tend to become a bit lonely. She is basically just like every teenage girl who wants that one guy who loves her unconditionally.


"As I had no training, it was a very new experience for me. For the first few days I was a bit nervous and would keep to myself but then eventually we all opened up and it was a lot of fun. But I must say the production house (Dharma Productions) made me feel very comfortable," Alia said.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali commented Alia is a born actress. Alia at the age of 10 had auditioned for Sanjay Leela Bhansali's proposed love story Hamari Jaan Ho Tum, a take on Balika Badhu. Alia had apparently behaved like a complete natural actress at the audition. Alia's mother who saw the audition reminds, "Sanjay Bhansali predicted she was a born actress. It took some years for her to face the camera. But now Alia has the confidence."
